Tlayudona Features one Fabulous Host each Month in 2019

Tlayudona is launching a new promotion for 2019 in celebration of our hard work and great fortune over the past year, and will be featuring one of our amazing hosts each month accordingly.  We hope that this will help bring in new clients and visitors to both Tlayudona as well as the sister projects that many of our hosts are engaged in creating/working/bringing to life.  We wanted to get a head start on this promotion and bring you January´s pick in time for your holiday travels:

We Applaud Kate from Cafébre!

Here at Tlayudona, we feel especially grateful to not only get to work with Kate, but to have had her as a friend for nearly a decade.  Over the years we´ve watched her evolve from being a newbie on the coffee scene to becoming one of the most prominent players in the world of Oaxacan specialty coffee.

Kate´s success is not an accident. She has invested her mind, heart, and soul into Cafébre and her latest project, Tostaduría 5.  When she´s not cupping coffee, she´s roasting it, and visa versa. She practically breathes coffee, and has been known to call out roasting formulas in her sleep! You can see the culmination of all of her hard work at 108 M. Bravo, just a block and a half away from the iconic Santo Domingo church.

Yes, Coffee is a Fruit: Learn, Sip, and Roast with Us!

For the remainder of December and for January, we are promoting Kate´s comprehensive coffee experience in Cafébre.  This experience is centrally-located right in Cafébre in Oaxaca´s city center.  Kate has been in Oaxaca for the entirety of her adult life and speaks both English and Spanish with enviable fluidity, so this experience can be given in either language. We are hosting this experience December 23rd, so that you can get your coffee on before Christmas (and perhaps even pick up a special gift for the coffee lovers in your life), as well as each Wednesday in January!  It includes the following:

  • A brief introduction to coffee and the local coffee scene within its Oaxacan context

  • A chance to differentiate between the good, the bad*, and the burnt. (*Although we understand that everyone’s preferences are different, and the subjectivity of the matter is part of what makes it so fascinating.)

  • A beginner´s understanding of different roasts and the properties of an ideal specialty roast

  • A tasting of coffees from various regions in Oaxaca and a complimentary caffeine buzz

  • The opportunity to roast coffee together with Cafébre´s team

  • A personalized Q&A session

  • Your own bag (250 g) of freshly-roasted Oaxacan coffee.

Sign Up, or Arrange Your Own Personalized Experience

You can see additional information about the experience or reserve your spot in one of the dates she has on our calendar here. It can be adapted to a range of levels, from beginner to full-fledged coffee nerd, so all it really requires of you is a LOVE OF COFFEE!

You can also contact us at Tlayudona to arrange your personalized experience with Kate at Cafébre, whether you´re interested in an in-depth cupping or roasting, or have a particular idea in mind.

Support Tlayudona in Supporting Responsible Businesses

Tlayudona works with a range of hosts in and around Oaxaca to bring you the best experiences. It is important to us that our hosts are women or individuals who visibilize women´s work in Oaxaca.  In the case that our hosts are/own their own businesses, such as Cafébre, these businesses are committed to building fair and sustainable relationships with local producers. They are dedicated to strengthening the local economy, and promoting the valuable contributions that women have made in their fields. We are proud to have the opportunity to create community with them. If you´d like to participate or want more information on how to get involved in this evolving project, contact us!
