Day of the Dead

Día de Muertos

The season of “muertos” is one of the most exciting times to be in Oaxaca. It´s also a deeply spiritual time. It´s a time of reflection, during which one honors the harmony of the dead with the living. The duality of presence and absence is celebrated, and the nuances of the array of emotions that come along with it are recognized.  Death is around us, and through its illumination, we also understand more about life.

This holiday has also become a touristic celebration.  At Tlayudona, we´re grateful to be able to participate in these beautiful traditions and thankful for our hosts, who willingly open up their hearts, culture, and sometimes even their homes to receive us. We aim to participate with the utmost respect for our neighbors and community during such an emotionally-poignant time. Welcome!  We hope to see you at some of our October and November experiences!

    Jennifer,
I haven’t heard from you in a while. We are still interested in booking a day with Flor, and other activities related to Dia de Muertos. As we discussed by email in April, we are a party of three, and will arrive in Oaxaca on 30 October. One serious amateur photographer, one architect/builder, and one teacher, all retired. Please let me know when we should firm up our plans with you.
    Best regards,
    Mike Hayden
